The Indian Woman

Indian Women have changed their role through time. In the ancient, Indian culture was matriarchal; women used to be very important and they could learn everything they wanted to. While the time passed by, Indian Culture was becoming more patriarcal and women were losing their importance until they were treated like slaves (at the service of their husband) without educational rights.  Nowadays, Indian women after an extensive fight they are able to share equal rights with men. However, they still are discriminated.
Although India has grown in the last century, it has a several cultural problems, which have not shown any improvement. The role of the women in India has been excluded, because there are still a lot of abuses against women. Women not only have to tolerate discrimination and violence; they also have to be prepared to die before they born.  India is one of many countries of the world where the highest percent of the population is male.  Around 929 women per 1000 men and the life expectancy is lower for women than for men. More than 2, 5 millions of girls disappear every year (According to http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/) because families think that is more useful to educate men than women, so they kill them before or at the moment of birth. Although in 1994, the government of India forbade the abortion for gender issues and the use of technology in order to know the sex of the fetus. Nevertheless, the Indian police usually receives complaints about clandestine cemeteries where bones of fetuses and babies ´corpses are buried.  The Indian government has decided to build baby cribs in all the districts of the country, with the objective of saving the lives of millions of female babies who are abandoned by their parents.  Some people criticize this decision, but the government explains that it is better than having clandestine cemeteries.

  2. How women's right changed too much?. It's incredible that when the baby is a girl they killed her, I believe that is cruel not fair. To me women and men have the same rights but definitely not everybody have the same thought as me.

  6. What an aberration! how can they prefer a type of gender for their children! I consider a recoil in the Indian women' rights, I think that they were happiest before than nowadays.

  10. I cannot belive that! What a change in the culture of India. They go forward in money but in mind... OMG!. Well, India is a country with the both sides of a coin, but in a extremely way. Some people are so rich and the rest so poor. With sex, according with the text, happen the same: Men with rights and women withot rights.

  11. I think that is really bad how women are treated but, the parents of the child that is being thrown away are female and male so in some way women let women die. In other words women are the ones that allow all this, especially if the ones that kill their babies or treat them badly are their own parents and what it's even worse, their own mothers. I wouldn't give a woman the right of fredoom if she doesn't give it to another one. I mean we have to start by the first step.

  14. Wow, it's really annoying these kind of things. I mean, I can't believe that at this time these things still happening, and it seems that no one can defend women from these things. It's really shocking to me , at least as a woman.

  15. I don't agree about the thought of : "that's a female baby...we don't want it! so I'm going to abandoned it "... I'm not saying that it's like that, but it's so much stupid as the silly thing that I write. Obviously in their minds a women is not as much usefull as a male child... but, what's the right of people or why is the arguement for to kill or leave people?! that's no sense...is an awful practice, and an awful way to solve differencies or I don't know "problems" like they thinks the women are. They really need to understand that all the people have to do whatever they want, and also that everyone is able to do anything if he/she wants.

  16. At least at the beginning of this culture, women’s role was more important than men’s, because we usually see that men’s role it’s more important than women’s. Even though this has changed, it’s important to remark that at least for once, women were important, and there was a matriarchal society. But unfortunately, it’s a chauvinist society that still discriminates women.

  19. I think that this country is one of the most popular around the world , because their traditions, I would like to know this country..it is a pitty that women have lost importance over the years, because they had the opportunity to change the history of women many years ago and they didn`t do it.

  20. It is very important to know that indian women are, in a cultural way, more escencial for India. When India became more patriarcal this culture lost more than its history, because of the myths and leyends related to women. manuel

  21. The killing of infants is something very difficult for me to understand. I can't belive they are killed because they are not so important as men. This MUST be changed. We all have the right to live no matter our gender.

  23. Is heartbreaking to read how little girls are discriminated just for the only reason of being women and also how they have to tolerate discrimination and violence.
Incredible that these things still happen today, but sadly the laws in that kind of countries have been the same for years…
